About the role: You, as Lead Mechanic will oversee the workshop team with servicing, repairs, and maintenance of the Avis Budget Group motor vehicles, ensuring they are completed in a timely, efficient, and cost‑effective manner, and to the company standards within all appropriate laws and regulations while maintaining a safe environment. You will perform duties and provide services which reflect the Company’s values. Essential duties and responsibilities, shown below, will vary accordingly based on the location, team size, brand and any specialised or specific requirements. Key duties would include: Assist in running the workshop along with the Service manager. Help with driving productivity within the two shops along with Service manager. Control of vehicle workshop yard. Oversee tasks to be completed by teams including yard drivers. Control of warranty and service bookings with dealers, including the follow‑up and return of these vehicles. Quality control of panel repair return vehicles before returning to fleet. Order parts and workshop stock and vehicle repair parts while controlling the amount of stock carried and ensuring no obsolescent stock is being held unnecessarily. Provide internal training and supervision of workshop & yard staff. Ensure OH&S safety standards are followed and adhered to in the workshop and yard areas. All PPE is provided and used when required in the workshop. Ensure the servicing of vehicles is in line with manufacturers’ specifications and company standards, including supervising minor repairs and preventative maintenance checks on fleet vehicles (e.g. replacing fluids, changing oil/air filter, tyres, brakes etc.). Other responsibilities would include: Complete workshop repair orders. Assist and advise mechanics in the workshop on repairs specifically about diagnosing complex faults. Answer phone enquiries and provide breakdown assistance and response when necessary. Liaise with external sublet repairers and coordinate repairs to ensure minimal downtime. Prepare vehicles for handback and sales including the removal of fuel from sales vehicles. Test and general service workshop electrical and mechanical equipment for safety. Keep accurate and on‑time job records and recording of servicing history in Wizard. Process accident reports and quotes. Deal professionally with clients while carrying out duties. Manage the carpark to ensure minimal operational impacts. Assist in administrative duties as required and maintain Wizard through organising and resetting contractor services. Lease and hand back vehicle inspections and organise repairs that are required on these vehicles and liaise with Fleet Department. Part stock control, part interpretation and allocation upon delivery arrivals. Have an in‑depth knowledge of the worldwide reservation system (Wizard) and an understanding of the current policies and procedures for Mechanics. Conduct work in a safe manner, complying with Occupational Safety, Health & Environmental policies, procedures and being familiar with emergency evacuation procedures to eliminate or minimise workplace health and safety risks. Adhere to Company Quality Assurance and Uniform Guidelines. Work efficiently and effectively in a team environment to maintain a culture of service excellence and accomplish organisational goals under limited supervision. Drive vehicles as required. What we are looking for: Trade qualification in Motor Mechanics. A Full Driver’s licence is required. Experience within the car rental industry. Previous experience in supervisory or leadership role with sound coaching and mentoring skills. Demonstrated understanding and use of Customer Service and Sales techniques and processes. Excellent verbal and written skills. Knowledge of OSH&E legislation. Excellent problem‑solving abilities. Comprehensive knowledge of Avis Budget computer system.
