Job Description
Clinical Nurse Educator – Waipuna Hospice Te Puna/Tauranga – 40hrs per week. At Waipuna Hospice, we champion compassionate and equitable end‑of‑life care across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty. As a specialist palliative care service, we provide responsive, person and whānau‑centred care for people living with life‑limiting illness, working alongside healthcare providers and community partners to strengthen palliative care capability and access across our communities. We offer a holistic approach, including nursing and medical care, counselling, social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, equipment support, respite care, carer education, companion volunteers, and more. Through funding and community support, we provide these services free of charge at the point of care. Role Overview As a Clinical Nurse Educator, you will strengthen the capability of our nursing and clinical workforce and advance excellence in palliative and end‑of‑life care. Working closely with clinical teams, you will identify learning needs and support staff to build confidence, competence, and progression toward specialist palliative care practice. You will contribute to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of high‑quality palliative care education across the organisation, including leading mandatory training, supporting the orientation of new nursing and clinical staff, and actively supporting our Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP). The role also extends beyond hospice services, supporting education and clinical partnership across the wider health system. As part of senior nursing, you will contribute to strategic thinking, nursing workforce development, and the ongoing evolution of clinical education, helping Waipuna Hospice champion compassionate, equitable, palliative and end‑of‑life care for our communities. Responsibilities Identify learning needs of internal and external providers, community carers and whānau. Strengthen capability of nursing and clinical workforce through education and training. Plan, deliver and evaluate high‑quality palliative care education programmes. Lead mandatory training sessions and support orientation of new nursing and clinical staff. Support the Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP). Support education and clinical partnership across the wider health system. Contribute to strategic thinking and nursing workforce development. Qualifications & Skills Current New Zealand Registered Nurse Practising Certificate (APC). Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand. Minimum 3 years’ clinical nursing experience in a palliative care setting. A post‑graduate qualification in palliative care, advanced nursing or similar. Previous experience in adult education (desirable). Excellent communication, facilitation and technical skills. Team player with a positive approach. Commitment to education, mentoring and quality improvement. Ability to work independently, adapt and be flexible to current clinical needs. Commitment to equitable, patient and whānau‑centred care.
