Summary of Position As Design Estimator, you’ll develop accurate, professional quotations and designs for our LV Distribution Network products, working closely with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), service providers, and our internal Sales, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams. You’ll spend the majority of your time turning client RFQs and specifications into complete, costed design solutions — producing electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and detailed Bills of Materials along the way. This is a genuinely client‑facing role. You’ll regularly engage with clients, DNOs, and suppliers to clarify requirements, provide technical input, deliver product demonstrations and training, and represent Hiko Power at exhibitions and trade events. Key Responsibilities Quote Development (Approx 80% of time focused in this area) – This includes: Quotation & Design Development, Costing, Optimisation & Commercial Outcomes, Design & Technical Deliverables, Compliance & Best Practice in Industry & Network Standards, Customer & Stakeholder Engagement. Supporting the Sales Team & Process – This includes: Supporting existing and new business, by supporting the sales team and their key relationships at the applications level with engineers, designers, estimators, project managers, operations managers, installation and maintenance personnel. Customer Engagement – This includes: Building constructive and effective relationships with customers, communicating and selling the key Hiko benefits of certainty, reliability by design, and long‑term value. In addition, understanding customers’ current and future needs and how each product line meet these needs. Team Work – Living Hiko’s Values + Working Proactively to Build and Maintain Great Teamwork. Ensuring that Health and Safety issues are appropriately incorporated into all aspects of the role. Policy Compliance – this includes: Being familiar with and complying with all company policies and procedures. Person Specification – LV Distribution Products Electrical engineering experience in relevant B2B customer facing roles (such as electrical design, design estimator, service or product support, product management, field operations) within the NZ LV distribution network environment or suppliers serving the industry. Degree or Diploma qualified Electrical Engineer or Technician, or equivalent, or industry gained experience. Manufacturing experience is an advantage. Ability to grow and maintain long term relationships in a small team and with customers around New Zealand and suppliers in Australia and Europe. Resourceful and self‑motivated. Strong sense of ownership and accountability, well‑organised, with an attention to detail, able to build and maintain structure and discipline, but able to live with complexity and a degree of ambiguity. Intuitively responsive to customer needs and very professional. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Presents a professional appearance and communicates confidently with customers, representing Hiko Power Engineering in meetings, site visits, and technical discussions. Proficient user of MS Office.
