This is a fixed-term opportunity through to April 2027, covering a secondment. The role can be based in Wellington, Auckland, or Christchurch. As Kaitohutohu - Wāteatanga | Advisor- Accessibility at Tatauranga Aotearoa | Stats NZ, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting accessibility for disabled people across Aotearoa New Zealand. Working within the Specialist Data Capability Team, you’ll collaborate closely with Accessibility Advisors, engagement specialists, and survey delivery teams, with support from the Unit Manager‑Specialist Data Capability. You’ll build strong, trusted relationships across the organisation, partnering with groups such as the Accessibility Working Group and the Diversity & Inclusion Working Group. Your influence will span major initiatives including the Census, the Household Disability Survey, and Census statistical releases – helping embed accessibility from design through to delivery. This is a role with real impact. You’ll lead accessibility requirements for Census engagement, support inclusive survey outputs, and help lift organisational capability so that Stats NZ’s services and data products are accessible, inclusive, and meaningful for disabled people and their whānau across Aotearoa. Experience with accessibility tools, technologies, or practices, or a strong understanding of barriers experienced by disabled people. A collaborative approach and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. Experience supporting accessible and inclusive solutions that improve participation and outcomes for tāngata wahaikaha Māori, disabled people, and their whānau. An understanding of intersectionality and how different identities and lived experiences can influence access, participation, and outcomes. Confidence communicating with a range of audiences, including facilitating discussions, presenting information, and sharing advice. Curiosity about data and information, and an appreciation of how quality data can support better outcomes for people and communities. The ability to navigate ambiguity, think critically, and contribute practical solutions to complex challenges. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate insights into clear, actionable advice. We highly value demonstrated competency in mātauranga Māori, tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi application in a workplace setting. To support this work, proficiency in tereo Māori, or a strong commitment to developing tereo Māori capability is welcomed.
