Job Description

About the role This role is based in our Wellington office. The role is not designed for full‑time remote working, although work‑from‑home arrangements may be considered. Key responsibilities include: Providing advice and support to applicants and delegated decision makers for the import and export of controlled goods (e.g., hazardous waste and ozone‑depleting substances). Liaising with submitters, applicants and other government and international agencies on statutory decision making. Managing a busy workload of applications, working across a range of legislation and work streams, and contributing to the success of the EPA. Building strong, positive connections with customers and communicating effectively. About you We are looking for someone who has the following qualities: Experience in regulatory systems, with a relevant tertiary qualification preferable. Experience working with the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, the Ozone Layer Protection Act, the Import and Export Restrictions Act 1988, or similar legislation. Excellent communication, relationship‑building and reporting skills, and a desire to deliver great customer service. Self‑motivated, able to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, set priorities and achieve results within tight deadlines. Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, common sense and a pragmatic approach to problem solving. Proven ability to analyse technical material, comprehend information, identify and manage risks, and communicate it simply.
