Emergency Medicine Consultants Location & Employment Rotorua Hospital – Full Time, Permanent About the Role We are looking for a passionate, dedicated, and community‑driven Emergency Medicine Consultant to join our busy Emergency Department. Rotorua sees 38,000 Emergency Department presentations annually, and is supported by a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists and RMOs. As a tier 2 Emergency Department with high trauma volume due to our rural geography and extreme outdoor activities, you will deliver a consistently excellent service to meet the needs of the Lakes community. As a teaching hospital, you will have the opportunity to mentor, coach and supervise 4th and 6th year Auckland University medical students. We are officially certified by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and offer structured teaching with protected time over the course of 24 months to support your career progression. Team / Service / Location Our Emergency Department comprises 34 beds (2 resus bays, 5 acute monitoring cubicles, 17 monitored cubicles, 4 paediatric rooms, 2 procedure rooms, and dedicated Whānau and Palliative Care rooms). We have 24/7 access to radiology, lab, and blood bank services, and acute on‑site services with transfers to Waikato Hospital for neurosurgery, cardiothoracic, vascular and plastics. We are part of the Te Manawa Taki (Midland) Regional Trauma System, a multidisciplinary team of specialist clinical people committed to ensuring best practice in trauma care across the region. Responsibilities Apply your varied and broad generalist knowledge and expertise to diagnose and treat patients in the Emergency Department, through to discharge or stabilisation, and transfer patients to secondary/tertiary hospitals when necessary. Provide emergency care in a high‑volume, trauma‑heavy environment, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and contributing to best‑practice protocols. Engage in medical teaching and mentoring of medical students and junior staff. Qualifications Within 3 months of obtaining your Emergency Medicine qualification and/or be eligible for Specialist Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
