About the role We are looking to appoint community minded, self-managing and resilient people with the special responsibility of Residential Tuākana in Te Pā Tauira, Otago Polytechnic’s Student Village. As a Residential Tuākana you will be a leader within our student community by: providing pastoral support to first year tertiary students creating, organising and running events for the community monitoring and informing senior staff about community developments undertaking general administration and reporting tasks What we offer Modern en-suite room onsite (building opened in 2018) Opportunity to develop your leadership skills within a diverse community environment Professional development opportunities in the pastoral care and wellbeing space Monthly professional supervision A supportive team environment A once in a lifetime opportunity to have a direct role in building a new community Walking distance from the University and Polytech Weekly accommodation allowance Subsidised food expenses Attractive hourly wage - $26.00 p/hour Flexible rostering About you Key to your success in this role will be your: Ability to relate to and empathise with the challenges first year tertiary ākonga face Ability to self-manage and organise your own workload Resilience and self-care strategies which sustain your personal resilience People focus and enjoyment in engaging and communicating with a diverse range of people Understanding of professional boundaries in a support-based role As part of this role, you must be enrolled in full time study at Otago Polytechnic or Otago University for 2027 and be willing to live on-site. What you’ll be able to demonstrate Excellent communication skills with a natural ability to engage and build relationships Be an effective Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner by supporting the values and tikanga of mana whenua throughout your mahi Good computer literacy and ability to use full suite of Microsoft products (particularly Word, Excel and SharePoint/Teams) Pass a police check Ability to work in NZ You will have demonstrable health and safety best practices and enjoy being part of a team who support each other. You will easily be able to build and maintain relationships.
