Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor - Structural Engineering - Structural Steel Full‑time Campus: Auckland City Campus Position Number: 60008649 UoA Department Name: Civil and Environmental Engineering The University of Auckland is seeking a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor to lead an innovative research and teaching programme in Structural Steel. The role is funded by the Heavy Engineering Research Association (HERA) and offers an engaging environment for research, industry collaboration, and digital technology development. Responsibilities Lead a research programme on structural steel systems and digital design technologies. Collaborate with industry partners, including HERA, to deliver impactful research and professional training. Actively contribute to the department through teaching, research, and service. Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses aligned with structural steel design and emerging technologies, and contribute to curriculum development. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students. Provide thought leadership and influence national and international practice in structural steel design and construction. Engage with industry, government, and technical societies to ensure research relevance and application. Contribute to service roles within the Department, Faculty, and University. Qualifications Bachelor of Engineering and PhD in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent). A highly regarded research profile with a sustained record of high‑impact publications in top‑tier journals. Demonstrated success in securing competitive external research funding. Proven excellence in teaching and leadership in structural steel course design and delivery. A strong record of postgraduate supervision, including the mentorship of high‑quality doctoral research students. Experience in industry engagement, collaboration, and implementation of research outcomes, with practical understanding of sector challenges. Expertise in structural steel component and system design, and preferably digital technologies such as AI, digital design, and advanced manufacturing. A compelling, forward‑looking vision for structural steel education and research at the national or global level. Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in teaching, research, and service.
