About the Role The Clinical Engineering Service at Te Toka Tumai is responsible for the management and maintenance of clinical equipment across our hospitals, providing frontline support for medical device-related issues. The Junior Technician role is an excellent opportunity for recent Electrical Engineering graduates or similarly qualified applicants to build a career in Clinical Engineering while contributing to the delivery of safe, high-quality healthcare services. The role is primarily based at Auckland City Hospital, with occasional travel to other local sites. Key responsibilities include: Undertake training while assisting with the maintenance, repair, and testing of medical equipment Perform quality assurance, performance testing, and acceptance testing of low-risk medical devices Maintain accurate equipment and compliance records within asset management systems Provide technical support and guidance to clinical staff to ensure the safe use of medical equipment Contribute to equipment reliability, continuous improvement initiatives, and effective service delivery across clinical services and hospital sites About the Team/Service The Procurement, Supply Chain and Health Technology (PSC&HTM) team at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora are a national function with a vast and complex scope. They play a critical role in ensuring the availability, safety, and efficiency of clinical and non-clinical goods and services across the health system. Responsible for managing and influencing over$9 billion in annual spend, the team are central to delivering high-quality patient outcomes and standardising product usage across regions. About you You are an early-career engineer or technically minded professional looking to build a career in Clinical Engineering. You enjoy problem-solving, working with technology, and making a meaningful contribution to healthcare by ensuring medical equipment is safe, reliable, and fit for purpose. You will bring: A Degree in Electrical Engineering, Diploma in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a customer-focused team environment Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accurate equipment and asset management records A positive, proactive attitude, with integrity, adaptability, and the ability to prioritise work in a fast-paced environment A current full New Zealand driver licence, good physical fitness, and the ability to work effectively within a hospital and bicultural setting Desirable but not essential: Experience working in a hospital, healthcare, or similar technical environment EWRB Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (EAS) registration Experience undertaking preventive maintenance and fault-finding in a manufacturing or technical setting Working at Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
