About the Role We have a permanent, full-time opportunity available to join our Health Protection directorate as a Principal Advisor, Communicable Disease, reporting into the Manager Communicable Disease. This is a senior role and plays a leading role in the development of communicable disease advice, enabling the delivery of the NPHS strategic agenda for Pae Ora (Healthy Futures). The Principal Advisor role provides leadership, oversight and direction on key pieces of complex or contentious work to deliver high quality advice while supporting the development of team members and driving continuous quality improvement in processes and practice within the team. About the Service The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, works towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored. About you You are a dynamic and proactive individual whose expertise lies in providing leadership and support to achieve organisational priorities. You have strong project management skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to build strong working relationships and strategically engage with stakeholders. You draw on your knowledge of communicable diseases to contribute to the work programme, ideally you will have experience in the support of maintaining national guidelines for public health professionals. The Principal Advisor, Communicable Disease will use their previous experience to provide advice and guidance to others and lead continuous quality improvement. You will bring: Tertiary qualification in a health or relevant field and/or equivalent experience in communicable disease. Leadership experience, including designing and managing a portfolio of work, and resources. Extensive experience in an advisory role, applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide well-informed advice. Excellent analytical skills combined with an ability to quickly assimilate added information, and to write and talk about complex issues clearly and concisely with a range of audiences. Ability to draw on relevant longer-term experience specific to the job and work demands, acquired over time. Knowledge of the health system, risk management, and management in complex environments.
