Based in Auckland City Hospital, this Permanent, Full-time position is for a Clinical Scientist in the Diagnostic Genetics team at NewZealand’s leading hospital laboratory. About the role We are looking for an experienced and motivated Clinical Scientist to join our Diagnostic Genetics team. This is an excellent opportunity to work with NewZealand’s largest and highly specialised hospital‑based laboratory service. As a Clinical Scientist, you will play a key role in the delivery, development and innovation of genomic diagnostic services, working alongside the Consultant Clinical Scientist, pathologists, and senior laboratory staff. Responsibilities Provide specialist clinical interpretation and advisory services to clinicians. Contribute to service delivery including variant interpretation and classification (ACMG/AMP), including SNVs and CNVs, with clinical report authorisation. Design, validate, and implement new genomic assays and technologies. Support delivery of a high‑quality ISO15189‑accredited service. Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions and clinical decision‑making. Participate in strategic service development, quality improvement, and research activities. Provide teaching, training, and mentorship to scientific staff and trainees. Provide technical and clinical support to different sections of the Diagnostic Genetics department and have experience in both cytogenetic and molecular analyses. Qualifications Qualified as a Clinical Scientist and have at least 5years experience. Fellowship of the RCPath or RCPA preferred, or at least part1 FRCPath or FFSc (RCPA). Eligibility for registration with the Medical Sciences Council of NewZealand (MSCNZ) and current APC. Strong experience in variant interpretation and clinical reporting. A methodical and organised approach to work with a keen focus on accuracy and data quality. Experience with assay development and introduction of new tests is preferable. Good knowledge of the ISO15189:2022 standards. Excellent written and verbal communication. Flexibility to suit the service demands with the ability to prioritise and deliver to deadlines.
