About this role We’re looking for a proactive and community-focused Parks and Reserves Delivery Officer to support the coordination and delivery of maintenance, inspections, and reactive works and across our parks, reserves, and open spaces. This role is all about making things happen on the ground. You will work closely with the Senior Parks and Reserves Delivery Officer, contractors, internal teams, and the community to ensure our parks are safe, welcoming, and well maintained. You’ll be integral to ensuring workplans are delivered, assets are well maintained, and ensuring high-quality outcomes that enhance whanaungatanga, wellbeing, and enjoyment for our communities. What I do? Carry out playground inspections and routine playground‑related maintenance and activities. Complete minor repairs to assets and structures within the allocated delivery scope. Respond to vandalism and undertake make‑safe works where required. Support internal asset inspections and record defects clearly. Assist with maintaining safe, presentable and functional playground and wider open space environments. Liaise with the Sportsgrounds and Amenities Contract Manager on priorities, resourcing, safety issues and unresolved defects. Undertake asset assessments and implementation of good practice to ensure asset compliance to national standards. Escalate significant defects, hazards or issues outside delegated scope. To support and oversee contractor delivery for major and minor open space maintenance contracts. Work collaboratively with internal and external stake holders to build and maintain professional external relationships with iwi, contractors, community groups, elected members, sports clubs etc. What I bring? A tertiary qualification in horticulture, sports and recreation management, construction or similar is desired. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a related field to deliver the capabilities of the role. A working knowledge and ability to operate Outlook, Excel and Microsoft Word. Practical field skills in maintenance, repairs, playgrounds, carpentry, handyman work or similar environments. Ability to inspect and identify defects and complete minor remedial works. Strong safety awareness, reliability and pride in public asset presentation. Willingness to work outdoors across a dispersed network and respond flexibly to priorities. Can exercise judgement in problem solving. Proactive and responsive Customer Service attitude with a focus on internal and external customer needs. A commitment to Zero Harm and keeping yourself and others in the workplace safe.
