Based in Whangārei, Northland, this permanent full or part‑time position offers the opportunity to work across a diverse population and a broad range of acute medicine specialties. About the Role We are seeking an experienced Physician to provide Respiratory Services within Northland. The role encompasses acute inpatient respiratory consults and procedures, along with elective respiratory services such as outpatient clinics and bronchoscopy (both flexible bronchoscopy and linear EBUS). While the primary focus of the role is respiratory medicine, there are also opportunities to participate in general medicine ward rounds on a regular basis, depending on your experience and interest. Our Respiratory team comprises SMOs, a Nurse Practitioner, and Clinical Nurse Specialists, with additional support from the General Medicine team on the acute wards. Existing Medicine Specialties General and Acute medicine Rheumatology Respiratory Gastroenterology (including a visiting hepatologist) Neurology Cardiology Infectious Disease Endocrinology and diabetes Healthcare of the elderly Maternal Medicine Oncology and Haematology Renal medicine About the Team and Location Whangārei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland, supporting three regional hospitals in Kaitaia, Kawakawa, and Dargaville. Our Department of Medicine delivers acute and elective care to a population of more than 190,000 people across 12,600 square kilometres. About You To be considered you must have or be eligible for vocational (or locum tenens special purpose) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in an Internal Medicine scope of practice.
