About this Role Regional Leadership Advisor Commencing 28th January 2027 Fixed‑term, full‑time role Based with Tamaki Herenga Waka | South and Southwest Region The Regional Leadership Advisor is a 1–2 year secondment position starting 28th January 2027. The role is designed for experienced school principals (current or recent) who support and coach other principals to address challenges and implement education priorities. Support is delivered face‑to‑face and remotely, one‑to‑one, in clusters, larger groups, seminars, presentations, and wananga. Responsibilities include: Providing leadership advice and coaching to principals across primary and secondary sectors Facilitating collaboration among principals and kaikōrero through clusters and Kāhui Ako Supporting the sharing of good practice across the system Supporting innovative approaches to curriculum design, teaching, and learning Acting as a highly trusted educational professional to address issues promptly Playing a key role in enabling transformational change within schools and kura Qualifications and Experience Applicants should be a highly experienced current or recently retired school Principal (within the last 12 months) with: Deep first‑hand knowledge of the principals’ role and responsibilities Experience in both primary and secondary sectors and the ability to work across both Proven capability in school management and strategic and instructional leadership Ability to coach and support leaders across all levels (primary, intermediate, and secondary) Mana and status in the sector, and the integrity to relate well to others Willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct About Our Group and Team At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we provide services and support nationally, regionally, and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau. Te Mahau – Education Services is the key interface between Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education and education providers. We ensure that sector leaders and the communities in which they operate have access to the expertise, programmes, and resources that allow children and young people to reach their full potential. We bring government and Ministry policy to life and support education and community leadership within a self‑managing system, driving positive change to lift aspiration and raise educational achievement for all.
