About the Role Waikato Hospital, Pharmacy Services: Permanent, full time 40 hours per week, competitive salary + kiwisaver. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinical pharmacist to join our team at Waikato Hospital as a Senior Pharmacist, Surgical. This pivotal role contributes to clinical pharmacy leadership, supports ongoing service development, and ensures excellence in medicines management across surgical services. Opportunities for pharmacist prescriber services may also be available. As a senior member of the clinical pharmacy team you will provide leadership, mentorship, and professional guidance to pharmacists working across surgical wards while delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, you will exercise a high level of clinical autonomy, provide expert therapeutic advice, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives to advance pharmaceutical care across our comprehensive tertiary‑level surgical service. As a valued member of our Pharmacy Service team, you will receive comprehensive training and mentorship to support your professional growth. Funding for further studies, courses, and conferences, as well as support for your APC and membership fees, is available. We offer competitive remuneration with automatic annual increases, 5 weeks of annual leave after five years of service, and additional long service leave. About the Service The Health New Zealand Waikato Pharmacy Service provides essential pharmacy services to Waikato Hospital and rural hospitals, as well as tertiary advisory and support services to the Te Manawa Taki region. Our team upholds the highest standards in pharmaceutical supply, medicines safety and clinical services. With an outpatient pharmacy, a clinical trials service and a compounding suite, we offer a diverse range of services that truly set us apart. Responsibilities Lead clinical pharmacy practice across surgical wards. Provide mentorship and professional guidance to junior pharmacists. Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care within multidisciplinary teams. Exercise clinical autonomy and provide expert therapeutic advice. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and advance pharmaceutical care. Qualifications Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate. At least 35 years of post‑registration pharmacy experience. Previous experience in a relevant clinical specialty and/or a minimum of 3 years experience in a hospital or clinical setting. A postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or being actively working towards one. Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. Experience mentoring or supervising pharmacists. Current New Zealand driver’s licence. Competency in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or a commitment to starting this journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth. Experience in upholding Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
