Job Description
Equine Facility Operations Lead (Airport Livestock Services) This is not a role you'll find advertised very often. In fact, it may not come up again. This business has been built from the ground up by someone who has dedicated his career to it. Now, with the operation growing and a new purpose-built facility on the horizon, they are looking for someone to step in alongside him, take genuine ownership and grow with the business long term. What the role actually looks like No two weeks are the same. Flight volumes range from a handful to fifteen depending on the season. Most of the active work happens outside standard business hours, early mornings, late nights and occasionally both. When it's busy, it's full on. When it's quiet, it's genuinely quiet. The role is rostered across five days, but the nature of live animal logistics means you need to be available across seven. Flight schedules change, callouts happen and some days run longer than expected. A lifestyle that can absorb that matters, as does living within reasonable distance of the airport. The role covers three areas in roughly equal measure: Administration : rosters, compliance, airport passes, billing, records and systems. Operational coordination : flight planning, MPI liaison, managing the casual team and communicating with shippers and agents. The physical side : horse handling and loading, driving tugs and dollies, facility maintenance and working alongside the team on the ground. What we need to see Horse competency is the one non‑negotiable. Logistics can be taught, genuine confidence around horses cannot. Whether your background is in racing, breeding, sport horses or grooming, it needs to be real and it needs to hold up under pressure. Beyond that, we're looking for someone who is organised and capable on the systems and administration side, calm when things change, direct in their communication and genuinely in this for the long term. This is a stable, close‑knit environment that rewards people who take it seriously and want to build something lasting. What's on offer Competitive remuneration reflective of experience and the commitment this role requires, plus a vehicle. A role with genuine substance, long‑term security and the chance to work within one of the most specialised operations in the New Zealand equine industry. If this sounds like the right fit, we'd like to hear from you. Please get in touch with a brief note about your background with horses and your current situation. #J-18808-Ljbffr
