Job Description
Live and work where others holiday. Finish work and be on the lake, on a trail, or on the slopes within twenty minutes. All whilst doing meaningful engineering work for a growing region that genuinely needs it - catchment planning, water supply, and wastewater infrastructure for one of the fastest-growing districts in the country. The opportunity A specialist environmental engineering, science, GIS, and sustainability consultancy operating across Australia and New Zealand is looking for a Three Waters Engineer (intermediate or senior level) to join their Principal Engineer in Queenstown. This isn't a cog-in-a-machine role, you'll be part of a small team shaping how a booming region grows sustainably, with real ownership over your projects from day one, backed by the resources and project variety of a trans-Tasman consultancy. You'll get hands-on exposure across the full Three Waters spectrum: Wastewater and water supply master planning - helping shape long-term infrastructure strategy for a district under real growth pressure Stormwater catchment management planning - network-level thinking, not just pipe sizing Network performance investigations - diagnosing real-world issues and designing real fixes Consenting support - including earthworks and sediment control, and asset management input What you bring A Bachelor's in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent), plus 4+ years relevant experience, more experienced engineers ready for a senior role are equally encouraged to apply Track record investigating network performance issues Comfort with consenting processes and a willingness to build (or further develop) asset management skills Strong written communication - you can talk to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders with equal clarity Genuine environmental values, not just a line on a CV A willingness to keep building your understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and mātauranga Māori as it relates to your work You're in Queenstown already, or ready to make the move Why this role Small team, big trust. You won't be buried in a large team hierarchy, your work and judgement matter from week one. Genuine flexibility, not just a policy on paper. A sustainable transport subsidy and a real professional development budget. A trans-Tasman consultancy. With teams across Australia and New Zealand, you get the variety, resourcing, and career pathways of a larger firm without losing the close-knit culture of the Queenstown office. A workplace that means it. A proud Diversity Agenda member and a certified carbon-zero business - sustainability isn't a slogan here, it's how the company is structured. A region worth building for. Queenstown Lakes is one of the fastest-growing districts in NZ - the infrastructure challenges are real, and so is the impact of getting them right.
