About the program The Graduate Program spans two years, focused on developing foundational and future‑focused skills. You will start your career as a Graduate Electrical Engineer at the New Zealand Aluminium Smelter in Tiwai Point, close to Invercargill. The role offers hands‑on exposure early, working alongside experienced engineers, gaining insight into how equipment, systems and processes interact, and contributing to improving how the operation runs safely and reliably. Responsibilities Work alongside experienced engineers to support plant operations. Gain insight into equipment, systems, and processes interactions. Contribute to safety and reliability improvements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering with a major in Electrical. Final year of study or recently graduated with less than 2 years of relevant work experience. Right to work in Australia or New Zealand (citizenship, permanent residence, student or post‑graduate work visa). Current “C Class” Manual Drivers Licence at the time of commencement. Working Location The New Zealand Aluminium Smelter (NZAS) converts alumina into aluminium using renewable hydroelectricity, resulting in one of the lowest carbon footprints for an aluminium smelter in the world. The smelter is located on Tiwai Peninsula in Southland; around 90% of the aluminium produced at NZAS is exported. NZAS is a joint venture owned by Rio Tinto and Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical Company.
