Job Description

Provide quality advice and process applications related to the commercial and recreational use of conservation land and protected wildlife. This permanent, full-time role is based in Christchurch, though other locations may be considered for the right candidate. Role Overview You will support the application process for activities on public conservation land, in relation to protected wildlife, marine mammals and marine reserves. Your responsibilities include managing the application workflow from pre‑application discussion, through assessment and analysis, to drafting reports supporting the final decision. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, providing professional advice and support to internal and external customers. Responsibilities Process and assess applications for commercial and recreational use of conservation land and protected wildlife. Conduct pre‑application discussions and gather necessary information. Analyze applications, applying relevant legislation and environmental management standards. Prepare professional, high‑quality reports to aid decision‑making. Collaborate with colleagues across Service Centres and other DOC teams. Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, industry groups and the general public. Qualifications Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of building trust with others. Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate analysis into a professional report. Excellent time‑management, able to juggle multiple tasks and use organisational tools. Sound understanding of relevant legislation and/or an environmental management or planning background.
