Job Description

Whangārei, Northland, New Zealand (Permanent full‑time position). About the Role Whangārei Hospital has 8 operating theatres, a procedure room co‑located in the operating theatre suite, and a 2‑room endoscopy suite. It provides the majority of the surgical services for Northland, including a wide range of surgical sub‑specialties and all emergency surgery for the region. The case‑mix is varied and challenging, with a high volume of complex planned surgery as well as a busy trauma service. The Department of Anaesthesia is the largest department within the Surgical Service in Northland, providing a 24/7 service to Whangārei Hospital and the planned surgery delivered at Kaitaia Hospital. You will be joining a team of approximately 30 Specialist Anaesthetists, together with Anaesthetic SHOs and Registrars who rotate from the Auckland region as part of their training. We work with skilled anaesthetic technicians and other healthcare professionals. The consultant will provide effective and high‑quality anaesthetic services to the Northland community and will have opportunities to teach and train resident medical staff and students. About the Location Whangārei offers a warm climate, excellent schools, affordable housing, and scenic coastal areas with a range of recreational activities. It is only a two‑hour drive or 25‑minute flight from Auckland. Qualifications and Requirements To be considered you must have or be eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in an Anaesthesia Vocational scope of practice.
