Job Description
Cancer Care Clinical Coordinator Registered Nurse Are you a compassionate Registered Nurse who is passionate about improving outcomes for whānau affected by cancer? Ngāti Porou Oranga is seeking a dedicated and culturally responsive Cancer Care Clinical Coordinator to join our Primary Health Services team. In this rewarding role, you will walk alongside whānau throughout every stage of their cancer journey—from prevention and early detection through to diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and survivorship. Your focus will be on providing holistic, whānau‑centred care that empowers individuals and their whānau to navigate the health system with confidence and dignity. Based on the stunning East Coast of Tairāwhiti, you will support communities from Pōtikirua to Whāngārā, delivering care that is guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and grounded in Kaupapa Māori values. You will play a vital role in ensuring services uphold the mana, mauri, and tapu of every person and whānau you work with. This is a fixed‑term position, working 32 hours per week, offering an opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of whānau and contribute to improving cancer care across our communities. Clinical Navigation: Coordinate appointments, transport, and referrals, advocating for timely access to diagnosis and treatment (Faster Cancer Treatment targets). Whānau Advocacy: Provide mana‑enhancing emotional support and health literacy education throughout the treatment journey. Prevention & Education: Facilitate marae and community wānanga to promote cancer screening and risk reduction. Strategic Partnership: Strengthen relationships with iwi, hapū, specialists, and community providers to ensure integrated care. Quality Improvement: Contribute to Māori cancer health outcomes through data analysis and service evaluation. About You We are looking for a practitioner who embodies our values of Aroha, Manaaki, and Pakari. Registered Nurse with a current NZ practising certificate. At least 3 years of post‑registration experience in primary, community, or oncology nursing. Proven ability to deliver Kaupapa Māori or culturally safe practice. Strong clinical assessment, decision‑making, and communication skills. A full driver’s licence and the ability to travel across rural Tairāwhiti. A deep understanding of the impact of colonisation and equity on health outcomes. Postgraduate qualification in Cancer Nursing or Health Sciences. Competency in te reo Māori and an understanding of tikanga. Experience with national screening pathways (BSA and NCSP).
