Job Description
Senior Facade Engineer – Full Time, On Site (Auckland, New Zealand) BG&E is an employee‑owned consulting engineering business with more than 750 skilled professionals across 15 offices worldwide. The New Zealand office (Whangarei, Auckland, Christchurch) focuses on building and infrastructure and works with contractors, developers, architects, planners, financiers and government agencies to deliver projects that make a difference to people’s lives. Responsibilities Drive the design, management and implementation of complex façade projects, ensuring high‑quality, cost‑effective and well‑considered solutions for clients. Review contractor submissions, shop drawings and structural calculations while managing daily correspondence with design teams, suppliers and contractors. Maintain responsibility for the quality, accuracy and timely completion of deliverables, applying New Zealand Standards, Codes and H1 thermal analysis. Lead design team and site meetings, coordinate with global BG&E façade teams and review deliverables produced by junior engineers and drafters. Lead the financial performance and resource programming of multiple concurrent projects, assist with contract reviews and develop competitive proposals and bids. Partner with the Façade Lead to conduct business development, identify new opportunities with existing clients and build direct relationships across client organisations. Qualifications & Skills Degree qualified in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture or a transferable discipline and currently progressing toward Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status. Significant experience in a façade engineering role with a completed portfolio covering small, medium and large‑scale projects across a range of façade types. Strong working knowledge of national and international design codes, local council compliance pathways, construction techniques and procurement risk assessment. Broad technical toolkit including detail design, structural and building physics, material testing, site inspections, forensic investigations and on‑site experience. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a natural ability to translate complex engineering ideas into clear concepts for developers and architects. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work under pressure, meet strict project deadlines and motivate a team to work collaboratively.
