Job Description
Hand Therapist – Allied Health Outpatients Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Hospital Permanent / Part‑time, 40 hours per fortnight (0.5 FTE). This is a great opportunity to join a specialist, supportive team where you will work alongside orthopaedic services, develop advanced clinical skills, and make a meaningful difference in the recovery and wellbeing of patients across Hawkes Bay. About the Role As a Hand Therapist, you will play a vital role in supporting people with hand and upper limb conditions throughout their recovery journey. Working with a varied caseload, you will complete assessments, develop individualised treatment plans, provide rehabilitation and education, and help patients achieve the best possible functional outcomes. You will work collaboratively with patients, whānau, orthopaedic specialists, and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive hand and upper limb assessments. Develop and implement individualised treatment plans. Deliver rehabilitation and education to patients. Collaborate with patients, whānau, orthopaedic specialists, and multidisciplinary team members. Monitor progress and adjust treatments to optimise functional outcomes. About the Team & Service The Hand Therapy Service is a small, highly skilled team of clinicians providing specialist assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for patients with hand and upper limb injuries and conditions. Working closely alongside Orthopaedic Services and other Allied Health professionals, we are committed to delivering equitable, patient‑centred care across Hawkes Bay. Qualifications & Experience New Zealand Registered Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC). Registered or Associate Hand Therapist, or willingness to undertake hand therapy training with relevant musculoskeletal experience. Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, and rehabilitation skills within a musculoskeletal setting. Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
