Financial Accountant

Full time permanent position, Wellington based. Salary range: $85,537–$101,911 (depending on experience). About the Role The Financial Accountant completes month‑end processes, monthly General Ledger Balance Sheet reconciliations for the Crown department, and clears outstanding items to ensure that reported results are complete and accurate. Validation of this work occurs through a multi‑layered robust and detailed peer review and sign‑off process. A deep subject‑matter expertise is required to provide advice that enhances the understanding of financial accounting management within the Ministry. Responsibilities Complete month‑end financial close and reconciliations for the Crown and Department. Clear outstanding items to ensure complete and accurate reported results. Participate in a multi‑layered peer review and sign‑off process. Provide expert advice to improve financial accounting management. Maintain integrity and confidence in financial data and controls. Support flexible working arrangements if required. Qualifications & Experience Proven experience in financial accounting in medium to large organisations. High professional standards and a performance‑driven mindset. Clear communication of technical information in plain language. Ability to develop and maintain successful working relationships. Knowledge of the public sector financial management environment, including relevant statutes and Treasury guidelines. Technical accounting knowledge of PBE IPSAS, PBE IFRS and other NZ GAAP. Extensive experience in reconciliations, controls, process improvement and risk management. Chartered Accountant qualified or on track to be fully qualified (desirable).
