About the Role The Land Development Engineer plays a key role in supporting sustainable growth across Southland by providing expert engineering advice on subdivision and land development. Working as part of Council’s Water and Waste team, you’ll help ensure new infrastructure is designed, constructed, and delivered to the standards required for long-term Council ownership. You’ll work closely with developers, consultants, contractors, and internal teams to review development proposals, provide technical guidance, and oversee infrastructure delivery. This is a varied and influential role where you’ll also contribute to engineering standards, strategic planning, and policy development that supports resilient infrastructure and well‑managed growth across the district. Key Responsibilities Manage engineering aspects of subdivisions and land development projects. Review consent applications and engineering designs and provide advice under the Resource Management Act. Oversee construction activities, conduct site inspections, and confirm infrastructure quality prior to handover. Build strong relationships with developers, consultants, contractors, and internal teams. Contribute to sustainability initiatives and provide input into strategic planning and policy development. Prepare clear reports and present technical advice at hearings and meetings. About You You’ll bring: Bachelor of Engineering or relevant qualification. Broad experience across engineering disciplines, including project delivery and compliance. Strong understanding of the Resource Management Act, local government processes, and health and safety requirements. Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with a collaborative approach. Experience managing projects while balancing quality, compliance, timeframes, and budgets. Why Southland?
