Psychiatry Doctor - Hawkes Bay

Head Medical are seeking PGY3+ Doctors with at least 6 months’ dedicated Psychiatry experience for exciting opportunities based in the Hawke’s Bay region, New Zealand. This is an excellent role for doctors considering a psychiatry career pathway who are looking to broaden their clinical experience in a different healthcare system. You will join a supportive multidisciplinary team, manage a varied and stimulating case-load, and gain meaningful exposure to Māori health within a well-established mental health service. Work within one of New Zealand’s largest provincial hospitals, serving a population of over 160,000 Exposure to a broad range of psychiatry services including inpatient, community, addiction, older persons, child & adolescent, and liaison psychiatry Strong focus on multidisciplinary team working and holistic, culturally responsive care Salary: NZD $109,569 – $121,920 (dependent on experience) October 2026 Commencement – 12 month contract The Role You will be based in a large secondary-level, 400-bed accredited public hospital providing acute and elective services for a diverse regional population. The hospital is modern and well-resourced, offering a full range of medical, surgical, oncology, and radiology services. Outreach services extend across rural and community sites including Wairoa and Waipukurau. Mental Health Services Mental Health Services are comprehensive and integrated, delivered through established community and inpatient teams, including: Child, Adolescent and Family Services Home-Based Treatment Maternal Mental Health and Te Ara Manapou Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Emergency Mental Health Services Older Persons Mental Health Addiction Services, including opioid substitution programmes The inpatient unit, located on the Hastings hospital campus, includes high and medium intensity care areas as well as an intensive day treatment unit. Residential addiction services are also provided in Napier. Location You will be based in Hastings, a vibrant coastal city on New Zealand’s North Island, with the option to live in either Hastings or nearby Napier.
