Join the internationally recognised College of Creative Arts (CoCA) as a Technician, supporting students, researchers, and staff across Fine Art, Design, Screen Arts, Commercial Music, Matauranga Toi Maori and related programmes in a dynamic studio, workshop, and exhibition environments. About the Role As part of our Technical Services Team, you will provide practical, technical, and material support across a broad range of activities. This role supports teaching, research, and exhibition outcomes through specialist knowledge of studio processes, workshop practices, audiovisual systems, and gallery installation. You will help students and staff realise ambitious creative projects while maintaining safe, functional, and innovative studio and exhibition environments. What you’ll do Support a wide range of studio-based creative practices across Fine Art, Design, and related disciplines. Provide technical demonstrations and assistance with painting processes, including canvas stretching, surface preparation, and pigment-based paint-making. Support sculpture, object‑making, and workshop‑based fabrication processes using tools, materials, and equipment safely and effectively. Assist with the installation and de‑installation of exhibitions across gallery and project spaces. Support exhibition preparation, including artwork handling, packing, display solutions, and logistics. Provide practical input into gallery presentation, lighting, hanging systems, AV integration, and spatial installation. Maintain and troubleshoot audiovisual systems, including projectors, monitors, speakers, and playback technologies. Provide hands‑on support to students and staff during classes, workshops, exhibitions, and events. Assist with teaching delivery through technical demonstrations, inductions, and studio support. Contribute to the safe, efficient, and well‑organised operation of studios, workshops, and gallery spaces. Manage consumables, equipment maintenance, and inventory to ensure technical spaces remain fully operational. Collaborate with academic and technical staff to support teaching, research, and creative projects. About you We’re looking for someone with: A degree in Fine Arts or related field, or equivalent industry experience. Demonstrated experience supporting studio‑based creative practices. Strong practical experience in gallery exhibition installation and de‑installation. Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work across varied projects and disciplines. Strong communication and collaborative skills when working with staff and students. A commitment to health and safety in workshop, studio, and gallery environments. A willingness to engage with Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, Tikanga Maori, and Te Reo Maori in your work. Why Massey?
