Mō te tīma | About the Team The Fraud Squad is part of ASB’s Financial Crime platform and plays a critical role in protecting our customers and the bank from fraud. The team looks after the technology that Fraud Operations rely on every day, making sure fraud detection and case management systems are stable, compliant, and working as they should. This helps frontline teams identify suspicious activity early and respond quickly when something does not look right. You will work closely with Fraud Operations and other Financial Crime squads, supporting systems that help prevent and manage fraud across the bank. The team focuses on practical, reliable solutions, with a strong sense of purpose around reducing harm and protecting people. The work is collaborative and has a real impact for customers and for Aotearoa New Zealand. Mō te Tūranga | About the role As a Senior Software Engineer (Testing), you will be part of a small, highly capable squad within ASB’s Financial Crime platform, helping to keep our customers and the bank safe. You will work on complex systems that support fraud prevention and detection, with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and doing the right thing for customers. You will be part of ASB’s Engineering Practice, where teams work autonomously using agile ways of working and are encouraged to continuously grow their skills. The squad decides how work is prioritised and delivered, so your ideas will be heard, and your input will genuinely shape outcomes. You will work across the full testing lifecycle and collaborate closely with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Review requirements, designs, and specifications to ensure they are testable and clearly understood Define and execute testing strategies and plans aligned to agile delivery Perform ETL and data testing across enterprise‑scale systems Carry out integration and end‑to‑end testing across multiple applications and services Verify and validate new functionality as it is developed Build, maintain, and support performance testing Write new automated tests and extend existing test suites Analyse test results and clearly communicate findings and risks Work closely with engineers and stakeholders to support end‑to‑end testing and delivery Ō Pūkenga | About you You take ownership of testing outcomes and care deeply about quality. You enjoy working through complex problems, improving how things are done, and helping teams deliver reliable solutions that customers can trust. You are comfortable speaking up, asking questions, and representing a strong engineering perspective. You work collaboratively and bring a calm, practical approach to delivery. You understand the value of good testing in an enterprise environment and are motivated to continuously improve both the product and the way the team works. Key Skills And Experience Five or more years of experience in software test engineering, ideally in an enterprise environment Strong experience across functional testing, system integration testing, API testing, automation testing, and end‑to‑end testing Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Experience developing, maintaining, and executing automated tests Working knowledge of Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines Solid understanding of agile ways of working Demonstrated initiative, problem‑solving ability, and technical leadership Nice to have ISTQB Foundation certification Financial services or banking domain experience Experience with Snowflake and dbt Experience using data pipeline tools such as StreamSets Te mahi ki ASB | Working for ASB ASB’s sense of who we are and what we stand for is grounded in our values.
