About the role Based at Hillmorton Hospital, the Psychiatric Services for Adults with an Intellectual Disability (PSAID) Community Team provides comprehensive mental health assessment and treatment, including case management, for consumers with an intellectual disability and who also have a mental illness. The service is geared towards supporting and enabling consumers to effectively manage their illness in the community and lead a good life, often following inpatient care. About You This role involves managing and prioritising a caseload, where you oversee all aspects of care for consumers. This includes assessments, home visits, follow up appointments, and organising reviews within your multidisciplinary team. Your ability to build and maintain therapeutic relationships with consumers, family/whanau, the team and a range of NGO agencies in the community will help you develop consumer focused care plans. Strong communication skills will further support this. You’ll work with a high level of autonomy and think creatively/outside the square to support our consumers. This is a busy role, so you’ll need to be well organised, yet flexible enough to work within an ever‑changing environment. Strong problem‑solving skills will help you proactively address crises as they arise. Skills & Experience Registered Nurse with a recent mental health background and a current NZ practicing certificate. Enthusiastic, motivated, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with family/whanau, colleagues and significant others. Confident practitioner with demonstrated clinical assessment skills. Previous experience working with consumers who have an intellectual disability is an advantage, although we are still interested in candidates who have an interest to work and gain experience in ID.
