Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Lakes is looking for an exceptional senior Health Promoter to raise awareness of and participation in the free National Bowel Screening Programme in our area, prioritising engagement with Māori and Pacific communities. The Health Promoter plays a crucial role in planning, leading and coordinating engagement initiatives, events and education sessions. Combining your established community networks and ability to engage with our eligible age group (58-74 year olds), you will make a genuine difference and improve outcomes for whānau/family. Responsibilities Develop and implement ideas and promotional activities to increase the participation of eligible people, particularly for Māori & Pacific people who live across the Lakes district. Complete targeted outreach phone calling and text messaging with participants. Attend events or co-ordinate workshops on marae, in community settings or within workplaces to encourage and inspire people in their hauora screening practices, principally to complete their test kits for the National Bowel Screening Programme. Proactively seek out opportunities to promote bowel screening with diverse community organisations, health providers and workplaces. Develop and implement a communication and social media plan in alignment with key targets and strategies for bowel screening. Maintain strong and effective relationships with health and social community groups. Experience in health promotion and community engagement is essential. You will come with examples of ideas you have developed and delivered which has improved health or social outcomes for Māori and Pacific people. This is a full time 1.0 FTE fixed term position for 9 months where you will work Monday to Friday, and be available for intermittent evening and weekend work, both locally and across the wider Lakes region when required. About the Team/Service/Location Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Lakes promotes the National Bowel Screening Programme with eligible people between the age range of 58-74 years old. Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora expects to achieve bowel cancer screening rates of 60% for all eligible people. About you Have established community networks and engagement experience with Māori and / or Pacific communities. Background in health promotion and / or education, and have worked in a health setting for more than 4 years. Demonstrated experience in proactively developing engagement ideas and delivering on innovative solutions. Full New Zealand Drivers License.
