About the role Location: Auckland City, New Zealand. Full‑time, on site. The Security Guard Site Supervisor is responsible for a team of around 30 security personnel, including four Section Leaders and 20+ indirect reports. The role involves day‑to‑day operational oversight of the security guard force and management of a 24/7 roster at Devonport Naval Base, a large, busy, and dynamic site requiring a leader with a depth of well‑rounded security experience and exceptional interpersonal and motivational skills. No option to work remotely. Salary: $77,141 to $85,594 inclusive of the 4% employer super contribution plus an additional on‑call/back‑call allowance. Key Responsibilities Oversee NZDF systems and ensure SOPs are recognized, reported on, and appropriate action taken. Monitor unauthorised access, persons, information risks, and risks to building security. Report on security incidents and breaches. Undertake six‑monthly and annual performance development reviews, assessing the performance of each allocated team member. Coach, mentor, and develop staff by identifying key training and development needs and implementing development programmes to achieve required competency levels. Champion health and safety standards for all staff in line with NZDF protocols. Liaise with onsite NZDF personnel at various levels on operational requirements. Provide timely briefings and reports as required. Provide input into security projects or initiatives as required. Skills and Experience 3–5 years experience leading and managing teams, passionate about developing people and building capability. Strong commitment to coaching, mentoring, and fostering professional growth. Ability to create and sustain a supportive, inclusive team culture where individuals feel valued, engaged, and motivated. Extensive security experience operating within a secure environment. Knowledge or ability to manage a range of security systems and technologies. Comfortable conducting performance reviews and having difficult conversations. Initiative and good judgment. Well‑developed communication and relationship‑management skills. Works well under pressure and effectively manages any situations that arise. Strong organisational, prioritisation, and problem‑solving skills. Experience with change management and driving a positive workplace culture. Ability to write clear, concise incident reports and interpret and apply standard operating procedures. Intermediate‑to‑advanced MS Office skills. Current First Aid Certificate (maintained). Full Class 1 New Zealand Driver Licence required. Highly desired: Knowledge of the New Zealand Defence Force and Protective Security Requirements (PSR). Sound understanding of operational and protection functions, preferably in the New Zealand Public/State Sector context. National Certificate in Security and/or similar experience. Previous experience in a Security Leadership / Security Operations role. Experience with HR/ER processes related to managing personnel performance. Adequate level of health and physical fitness; able to walk long distances, climb stairs, stand or sit for long periods, and respond physically in an emergency.
