Overview Sterile Services / Theatre Technician at Nelson Hospital – permanent, part‑time (0.6FTE). The role involves preparing and maintaining reusable instruments for operating theatres and other hospital departments while supporting nursing teams with patient transport, cleaning, and equipment provision. Responsibilities Work closely with clinical teams to meet equipment needs and ensure timely availability of sterilised items. Perform decontamination, inspection, packaging, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment according to hospital protocols and infection‑control standards. Conduct thorough checks on all sterilised items to ensure cleanliness, functionality, and readiness for use in patient care. Assist nursing teams with patient transportation, theatre cleaning, and equipment provision. Qualifications and Skills Enthusiastic team player eager to develop a career in theatre/sterile services. Fast learner capable of thriving in a busy environment. Flexible to meet changing roster demands. Eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ work visa at the time of applying. Benefits and Opportunities Study towards the National Certificate in Sterilising Technology (Level3/4) – tuition cost covered by the hospital if not already attained. Permanent, part‑time position with a flexible roster and rotating shift cycle, 48 hours per fortnight. On‑call duties as required.
