This is a unique opportunity to work on some of New Zealand’s most exciting generation development projects. In this role you will be covering an existing employee on secondment and you will partner closely with our Generation and Generation Development teams, providing commercial, risk-based legal advice that supports the delivery of Mercury’s strategic objectives. This role offers the chance to contribute to nationally significant renewable and infrastructure projects, working with talented people across a business that is focused on delivering for Aotearoa New Zealand. Reporting to the General Counsel and Company Secretary, this is a true business partnering role. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business, getting alongside project teams to provide clear, pragmatic advice that enables delivery while managing legal and commercial risk. Key areas of advice include: Development and infrastructure projects, including construction, procurement, property, resource management, offtake agreements, operations and maintenance agreements Contractual arrangements relating to major projects and infrastructure delivery Disputes arising from development and infrastructure projects Electricity wholesale market arrangements, including physical supply agreements, derivatives and financial transmission rights General commercial and legal matters that support Mercury’s strategic objectives and initiatives Relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including external legal providers where required Qualifications 8 to 10 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally from a construction, infrastructure, projects, energy, utilities or comparable commercial background A current New Zealand practising certificate Strong contract drafting, review and advisory experience The ability to provide practical, risk-based legal advice in complex commercial environments Confidence working directly with senior stakeholders and cross-functional project teams A collaborative business partnering style, with the ability to influence and build trust quickly Sound judgement, commercial acumen, and the ability to work autonomously In-house experience would be helpful, but is not essential Benefits A diverse workplace where your unique abilities and talents will be recognised and encouraged Discounts on energy and telco as a Mercury customer as well as discounts with our third-party partners Confidential assistance programme The opportunities, career paths and facilities associated with working for one of New Zealand's largest multi-utility providers Flexible working policy - The autonomy and trust to work flexibly from our purpose-built premises and from home, recognising the value of this flexibility in the modern world Mercury retains the right to bring candidates through to interview more quickly. #J-18808-Ljbffr
