Registered Nurse – Lakes Integrated Health Service (LICHS) Casual on full rostered shifts at Taupo Hospital, Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora. About the Role The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, and implementation of programmes of care. These programmes are developed in partnership with patients, their family, whānau, carers, and significant others, and are grounded in evidence‑based practice. Care planning reflects each person’s lifestyle, race, gender, cultural background, and the physical, mental, and emotional factors that influence their health. The RN works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across both primary and secondary health settings, actively supporting the delivery of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Lakes vision and demonstrating its values in everyday practice. If assigned as a START Nurse, you are part of the team that delivers intensive, holistic support to enable early discharge for medically cleared patients through individualised, in‑home rehabilitation plans. If assigned as a District Nurse, your role involves daily patient visits within the community. A typical day includes an early start, scheduled home visits, responding to messages, providing home‑based treatments, and concluding with patient follow‑ups and team communication. Each visit incorporates patient and whānau education, delivery of treatment, accurate documentation, responding to clinical needs as they arise, and collaborating with the wider healthcare team to ensure holistic, person‑centred care. About the Team/Service/Location The District Nursing and START teams, together with NASC, form core components of the Lakes Integrated Community Health Service (LICHS). They apply both generalist and specialist expertise to deliver holistic care in the home and community. Their practice is grounded in a restorative, socio‑ecological approach that acknowledges the impact of social determinants on health and well‑being. About you Hold New Zealand Nursing Council registration (NCNZ). Hold a current Practicing Certificate. Hold a current driver’s licence, preferably for both manual and automatic vehicles. Have evidence of practicing at Level 3 of an approved PDRP programme. Have at least 3–5 years post‑graduate nursing experience in an acute medical/surgical setting. Possess advanced IV management (CVAD), Port‑A‑Cath, PICC, and Midline experience. Have awareness of issues for people with disability. Be a team player, has strong initiative and sound problem‑solving skills. Have enthusiasm and interest for working within the Service area.
