Job Description

IT Systems Engineer II Location: Rocket Lab's Auckland Production Complex, Mt. Wellington, Auckland, NZ. The role will join a fast‑paced, team‑oriented manufacturing environment and oversee implementation, administration, and operation of various platform and operating system environments. Position Summary The IT Systems Engineer II is responsible for the management and support of VMware, Kubernetes, Linux, and Windows Server/Client environments, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise systems. The engineer will provide subject‑matter expertise, guide infrastructure projects, automate software delivery, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues. Responsibilities Provide subject‑matter expertise, advice, and guidance for IT systems and cloud infrastructure. Carry out upgrades and maintenance with a focus on continuous improvement to secure reliable infrastructure. Lead project planning and deployment for infrastructure projects. Work with a team of IT, engineering, and business professionals. Create and sustain automated processes for software delivery/packaging, OS deployment, and configuration management across the enterprise SCCM hierarchy. Maintain efficient operation of upgrades or migrations by implementing necessary changes. Troubleshoot user software or hardware problems in line with project tasks and policies. Perform site‑specific risk mitigation activities as part of change/configuration management to ensure smooth implementation of new system software delivery/packaging. Create, test, and distribute common operating systems, application packages, scripts, and batch programs to support packaging and configuration management. Qualifications 5+ years of experience and a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience; high‑school diploma or GED with 9+ total years). In‑depth knowledge of Windows Server Administration: Active Directory, Group Policy, Certificate Management (PKI), DNS, DHCP. Experience with AWS or Azure enterprise environments and Microsoft 365 / O365. Proficiency with one or more of the following: Kubernetes, VMware, Linux, Configuration Management, Automation, Infrastructure as Code. Experience with server and storage hardware, backups, NetApp, Pure Storage, hyperconverged infrastructure, VOIP phone systems. Preferred Qualifications Specialist qualification in AWS, Azure, Microsoft, etc. Experience with Juniper or Cisco network switching, IPSEC, SSL VPNs, and firewalls. Knowledge of security frameworks/technology such as ISO27001, NIST800‑171, CMMC, CUI, Fortinet firewall setup. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Physical Requirements May require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, computer work, and occasional exposure to moderate levels of noise, dust, and fumes in production areas.
