About the Role Live and work in Whakatāne, a welcoming coastal town with a stunning coastline and a strong community spirit. Fixed term full‑time position 1.0FTE until August2026. Step into a newly established Home Based Treatment Team supporting people through acute mental health challenges in their own environment. This role provides assessment, treatment, monitoring, and coordination of care for individuals experiencing mental health crisis, with a strong focus on keeping people connected to their whānau and community. Working as part of an urgent response team, you will deliver intensive short‑term support that offers an alternative to inpatient admission, supports early discharge, and helps prevent escalation into secondary services. The role requires strong clinical judgement, the ability to respond quickly, and a focus on safety for both individuals and the wider community. This is a dynamic and evolving service where your input will contribute to shaping how care is delivered within the community setting. About the Team / Service / Location The Home Based Treatment Team sits within the Adult Community Mental Health and Addictions Acute Care Service in Whakatāne. This newly created team works alongside existing community and inpatient services to provide a more flexible and responsive model of care. The focus is on delivering timely, intensive support that enables recovery within familiar environments. You will be part of a multidisciplinary service committed to improving access, reducing hospital admissions, and strengthening outcomes for people and their whānau. Whakatāne offers a relaxed coastal lifestyle with strong community connections and access to beaches, bush, and outdoor living. Responsibilities Conduct assessment, treatment, monitoring, and coordination of care for individuals experiencing mental health crisis. Provide intensive short‑term support as an alternative to inpatient admission. Support early discharge and help prevent escalation into secondary services. Make sound clinical decisions in fast‑paced environments. Ensure safety for individuals and the wider community. Work as part of an urgent response team within a multidisciplinary service. About You Registered Mental Health Professional with strong acute assessment skills. Confident working independently and collaboratively within a team, with a calm, practical approach to crisis situations. Committed to safety, recovery‑focused care, and supporting people within their community. Qualifications and Requirements Registration with the relevant professional body and a current Annual Practicing Certificate. Minimum of three years experience within the mental health sector. Strong assessment, crisis intervention, and decision‑making skills. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Flexibility to work rostered shifts including weekends and public holidays. Full, valid NewZealand driver’s licence. Commitment to culturally responsive practice and community‑focused care.
