Job Description
Senior Medical Officer – Haematology and Research An opportunity to make an impact on the health of the community in Counties Manukau at Middlemore Hospital. This is a 0.8 FTE Haematology role and 0.2 FTE research role, for a 9‑month fixed‑term contract between January and 8th October 2027 covering parental leave. Overview We serve a population of approximately 560,000 across all major specialties. The Haematology department includes an in‑patient ward, chemotherapy day ward, outpatient clinics, thrombosis service, and a haematology laboratory and blood bank. Responsibilities Provide a full diagnostic service and treatment for patients with haematological diseases in the Counties Manukau region. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with nursing, allied health and scientific staff to ensure optimal patient care. Provide training for junior medical and nursing staff. Engage in an active clinical research programme in conjunction with Aotearoa Clinical Trials and develop your own research skills. Operate within an on‑call roster with an expected call frequency of 1:6. Qualifications Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Australasia or equivalent. Eligible for Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Working Conditions 0.8 FTE between Monday and Friday.
