Job Description

Delta Community Support Trust managed by Volunteering Canterbury Delta Community Trust in Richmond is opening a new Thursday evening community café, and we are looking for volunteers to join our team on an ongoing basis. This is a chance to be part of something meaningful — helping create a welcoming place where people can gather, share a hot meal and build community. Volunteer roles available We are looking for a range of people with different levels of experience, including: Experienced cooks/chef team leaders Passionate home cooks and foodies Kitchen assistants While we are looking for several people with strong cooking experience including kitchen leadership roles, we are also looking for passionate and competent cooks to balance the team. While experience is essential, you don’t need formal cooking qualifications. What matters most A genuine love of cooking for others Good time management and organisation Knowledge of food safety and best practice The ability to create nutritious, flavoursome food efficiently A warm, respectful approach to the people around you These roles are perfect for people who enjoy practical, hands‑on volunteering and who understand the power of shared food to bring people together. Our café will be a place where whānau and friends can connect, nourishing both bellies and souls. Food is more than a commodity — it builds relationships, supports wellbeing, and sits at the heart of connected communities. This Thursday café initiative is a new community service, and we’re looking for people who want to help balance the scales of food insecurity with aroha, choice, agency, and respect for culture. Time commitment Volunteer shifts are approximately 4 hours long on a Thursday and rostered start times vary from 1pm to 4pm. Meal service finishes at 6.30, so shifts will finish by 8pm. #J-18808-Ljbffr
