Job Description
Facilities Handy Person We are seeking a Facilities Handy Person to join the Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Justice team. Reporting to the Site Facilities Manager, you will help deliver high-quality outcomes that support essential services across a portfolio that includes 15 prisons, 100 courts and 157 community correctional sites. Responsibilities Plan, organise and control general carpentry and maintenance activities, both as part of a crew and independently. Respond to unexpected events, provide direction to work, and anticipate opportunities for continuous improvement. Perform scheduled maintenance, first‑response and reactive activities to mitigate disruption to customers. Complete all work to safety, quality and productivity targets, ensuring satisfaction of customers. Work in a 24/7 prison environment, managing jobs and situations after hours as required. Qualifications Previous experience in a property, facilities or asset management role. Technical carpentry skills and knowledge of techniques, methods, tools and safety precautions. Experience in flooring, painting or HVAC trades is considered an advantage. Ability to complete time and job sheets and use handheld electronic recording devices. Full Class One driver’s licence and capacity to drive a manual vehicle. Physically fit and agile, able to perform regular bending and lifting tasks. Strong verbal and written communication skills; tech‑savvy. Positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to high‑quality outcomes.
