Senior Quantity Surveyor

A well-established national structures subcontractor is expanding its operations into Queenstown, creating a rare opportunity for a senior quantity surveyor to take a lead role in a growing regional subcontractor business. With a secured pipeline of major projects across the next 5+ years, this role offers genuine scope to step into a leadership and management position, shaping the commercial function locally and building a small QS team as workload grows toward an annual turnover of $25–30m. Working closely with an experienced Project Manager, you will take full ownership of the post‑contract commercial function across multiple structural concrete and steel projects. This is a hands‑on senior role with clear progression into a broader management position. Key responsibilities include: Full post‑tender commercial management across live projects Procurement and letting of subcontract packages Management of monthly claims, variations, forecasting and reporting Cost control, cashflow management and commercial risk mitigation Supporting value engineering initiatives and identifying margin opportunities Developing systems, processes and mentoring junior QSs as the team grows What we’re looking for Quantity Surveyor with extensive experience on large structural projects Experienced with structural concrete and/or steel packages Working knowledge of NZ construction contracts & methods Proven ability to manage subcontractors, commercial risk and client relationships Comfortable operating autonomously while contributing to a wider national team Why this opportunity stands out Leadership role in a growing Queenstown operation Clear pathway into a management position Long‑term secured workload and repeat‑client relationships Backed by strong national systems, processes and commercial support Autonomy to establish, lead and influence how the local business operates Relocation: My client can provide relocation assistance and initial accommodation locally.
