Job Title and Employment Summary Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Hospital, Patient Safety and Quality Service – Permanent, Full‑time (1FTE, 80h per fortnight). About the Role As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), you’ll play a pivotal role in safeguarding the health and well‑being of patients, whānau, and kaimahi across Hawkes Bay. This senior clinical role leads best‑practice infection prevention approaches, provides specialist nursing advice, and supports services across the care continuum to minimise harm and prevent the spread of infection. You’ll work collaboratively with teams across primary, secondary, aged residential care, public health and community settings, providing expert guidance, outbreak management support, education and system‑wide leadership. This is a role for someone who thrives on innovation, quality improvement and influencing safe practice at both the bedside and organisational level. Responsibilities Your key responsibilities include: Lead infection prevention practice and advise on best public‑health approaches. Manage outbreaks and support services to minimise injury and infection risk. Collaborate with infectious diseases specialists, clinical leaders and public‑health agencies. Engage in quality improvement initiatives and influence safe practice organisation‑wide. Maintain and apply national Infection Prevention and Control Standards (NZS8134:2021). Qualifications Current NZ Nursing Council registration and APC as a Registered Nurse. Post‑graduate qualifications (preferably a PG Diploma) or equivalent experience, with willingness to complete additional study if required. Significant recent clinical experience, ideally in infection prevention and control or a relevant specialty practice. Strong communication, consultation and relationship‑building skills across all levels and services. Proven ability to provide clinical leadership, expert advice and high‑quality education. Competency with IT systems, data interpretation, and monitoring quality standards. Commitment to TeTiriti o Waitangi, equity and culturally safe practice. Desirable Experience in teaching, service improvement or involvement in regional or national IPC networks.
