Job Description
Engineering Estimator Hawera Based Strategic, Forward-Thinking Company Working on Varied Projects Across New Zealand Egmont Air operates in the ‘spraybooth, dust & fume extraction’ industry which is a specialist category of mechanical plant and machinery. Much like a centralised vacuum system, it involves ducting routing through a factory with a central extraction fan and filter unit. It also includes spray-booth enclosures and powder‑coating ovens, which all require technical and mechanical understanding. Their customers are NZ manufacturers producing a massive range of products and working with various materials, such as the woodworking industry (kitchen makers, joiners, timber processors working with MDF and solid timber), fiberglass manufacturers (boats, tanks, coach‑bodies), the engineering industry (steel, farm machinery, doors, trailers, trucks, buildings) and they produce welding, plasma and grinding fumes and dust. This newly created estimator position is predominantly an in‑house estimating role and will act as a key link between the sales staff and the drafter, assisting to put quotations together for client enquiries to provide a design‑and‑build solution. You will work closely with and support On‑Site Consultants, engaging and preparing proposals for them to present to prospective customers. You must have strong customer service skills as you will also provide technical after‑sales advice, maintain a database of existing customers and look after their ongoing equipment and parts needs and servicing. Responsibilities Prepare accurate quotation documents and proposals. Support On‑Site Consultants by engaging with customers and preparing proposals. Maintain customer database and at‑needs records. Work closely with sales staff and drafter to align design‑and‑build solutions. Qualifications & Skills High energy levels, self‑motivated, self‑planning, and self‑directed learning skills. Some understanding of HVAC airflow movement and formulas (air dynamics) or willingness to learn. Experience in the preparation of quotation documents and proposals. Technical estimating experience. Ability to specify products and understand capacity and limitations of machinery. Knowledge of various production lines and their customer priorities. Proficient in Microsoft Office, with experience in Smartsheet, Zoom, etc. preferred. Strong record‑keeping and reporting skills. Confidence in consultation and presenting proposals to customers. Creativity and ability to think ‘outside the box’ and explore new ways of doing things. Versatility and ability to work as a full team player. You will be creative and able to think ‘outside the box’, be keen to explore new ways of doing things and have a genuine appetite for change and growth.
