Job Description
Employer and Position Expressions of Interest – NZREX House Officer, Wairau Hospital – Fixed Term (24 months) Full Time Overview A 24‑month fixed‑term, full‑time House Officer role within the Primary Care Pathway programme at Health NewZealand (Nelson Marlborough). The position is suitable for PGY1 doctors from NewZealand or overseas and starts in October 2026. Location & Environment Wairau Hospital is situated in a setting close to outdoor recreation and local wineries, offering a tranquil working environment. Key Responsibilities Provide care and treatment to patients entering the GP practice and other patients requiring assessment. Work with patients and families to communicate and implement care management plans and monitor changes in clinical condition. Participate in community or ambulatory care work experience. Attend training sessions focused on patient‑centred care, evidence‑based medicine and managing uncertainty and long‑term conditions. Work hours: 8:00AM–4:00PM daily with long days of 4:00PM–10:30PM; weekends (Saturday and Sunday) 8:00AM–8:00PM; admission shifts 2:30PM–10:30PM. No on‑call or additional duties are required. Eligibility & Qualifications PGY1 from NewZealand or overseas; eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of NewZealand. Meet Immigration NewZealand requirements to live and work in NewZealand; must be eligible to work or hold a valid NewZealand visa at the time of application. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to contribute medical knowledge across all disciplines. Community & Team Part of a team of 50 House Officers within 120 RMO's, providing team‑based services to the patients of Nelson Marlborough.
