Specialist General Surgeon - Whakatane

About the Role Based at Whakatane Hospital, this is a full‑time, permanent position for a Specialist General Surgeon. The role is part of the General Surgery team at Hauora i Toi Bay of Plenty and supports services across the Bay of Plenty. Whakatāne Hospital provides comprehensive acute and planned (elective) surgical services to the Bay of Plenty population. The successful candidate will work within a team of four General Surgeons, supported by a Surgical MOSS and two Surgical Registrars, including a SET Registrar, in a collegial and well‑supported regional service. Participation in the after‑hours roster is required. About You We are looking for a specialist who would like an opportunity to work with the team, as a generalist and within their subspecialty, while also providing acute and planned care services, teaching, mentoring junior teams, and undertaking administrative responsibilities. A special interest in breast and thyroid surgery is desirable, as is competency in endoscopy.
