Consultant Psychiatrist - Mental Health for Older People Tauranga Mental Health and Addiction Service 0.4 FTE About the Role We currently have a permanent position available in our Mental Health Services for Older People team. MHSOP is a Health New Zealand Bay of Plenty (BOP) wide service with community offices based in Tauranga on the Tauranga Hospital campus, and Whakatane based at the Community Mental Health Service. The appointee will be based in Tauranga and will provide services across the whole BOP region. There are currently four specialist psychiatrists and one medical officer, as well as a house officer and a registrar, all based in Tauranga. These positions operate within a large community-based multidisciplinary team consisting of nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and psychologists and also on the MHSOP Inpatient ward, based in Tauranga hospital. This is a permanent 0.4 FTE position, working 32 hours per fortnight. The role will be covering ECT, MHSOP Liaison and acute MHSOP presentations to the Emergency Department/Assessment Planning Unit. Key Responsibilities Delivering ECT services for older adults within the BOP region. Providing liaison services between MHSOP and acute care settings, including the Emergency Department and Assessment Planning Unit. Participating in multidisciplinary community teams and inpatient wards to coordinate care for older people with mental health needs. Engaging in teaching activities for psychiatric registrars and medical students through the Upper Central North Island training scheme and the University of Auckland. Contributing to service development, clinical leadership, and research opportunities in collaboration with Auckland University. Key Benefits Well‑established peers and support network. About You Criteria for this position: You are a vocationally registered psychiatrist with the Medical Council of NZ or are eligible for registration. You hold a fellowship with the RANZCP or an equivalent qualification. You are committed to patient‑centred, collaborative, and collegial practice.
