Position: Health Care Support Worker – Diversional Therapist (Part Time, Permanent – 22.5 hours per week, AM and Weekend shifts) Location: George Manning Lifecare, Spreydon, Christchurch (Canterbury – Christchurch City) Application closes: 01 Aug 2026 About Us George Manning Lifecare & Village is a care home and hospital with 63 residents located in the popular suburb of Spreydon, Christchurch. We are part of Heritage Lifecare, New Zealand’s largest aged‑care and dementia provider, with 42 care homes and 20 villages across the country. About Our Role As a Diversional Therapist, you will ensure residents have opportunities to be involved in engaging activities that support their physical, cognitive, social, spiritual and emotional needs. You will create and deliver new and innovative activities, fostering community involvement and enhancing quality of life. Responsibilities Plan, coordinate and lead diverse activities for residents, including cognitive and physical exercises, arts and cultural stimulation, and social events. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to tailor activities to individual resident needs and preferences. Maintain accurate records of activity participation and progress. Support residents in the transition between activities, ensuring safety and engagement. Contribute to continuous improvement by evaluating programme outcomes and suggesting enhancements. Skills & Experience Held a Diversional Therapy qualification. Previous experience in psychogeriatric and dementia settings. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent time‑management, prioritisation and multitasking abilities. Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills. Full driver’s licence and ability to drive a manual van (or willingness to learn).
