About the Role This role supports whaiora, whanau and hospital teams by offering compassionate mental health and addictions assessment, treatment and guidance, helping ensure people get the right support they need. Position Description: Addictions Nurse As an Addictions Nurse you will work in Te Ara Maioha at Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti in Gisborne, working closely with supportive colleagues across the team to strengthen connected, culturally safe care for our Community. Responsibilities Provide mental health and addiction assessment, treatment and guidance to patients. Collaborate with hospital teams and whanau to support patients’ recovery. Implement harm reduction principles and manage withdrawal safely. Engage patients therapeutically and de‑escalate situations when needed. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated care. Qualifications Registered Nurse with a current APC. Experience in addiction, mental health, or related clinical settings. Knowledge of substance use disorders, withdrawal management, and harm reduction principles. Strong communication, de‑escalate, and therapeutic engagement skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
