Driver/Operator

Te Kowhiringa | The Opportunity Join Downer and play a key role in delivering essential infrastructure across our Whanganui network. We’re looking for a motivated and skilled Driver/Operator to join our team. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll be responsible for operating and maintaining plant and equipment safely and efficiently, while contributing to high‑quality outcomes across our works programme. Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities Operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently in line with company standards. Carry out pre‑start checks and identify/report hazards to maintain a safe work environment. Work as part of a crew to deliver civil construction and maintenance activities. Ensure plant is operated with care for the environment, minimising emissions and waste. Maintain equipment and report faults to support reliable performance. Assist with routine servicing and general upkeep of plant and equipment. Complete timesheets, logbooks, and other required documentation accurately and on time. Keep work areas, plant, and equipment clean, safe, and secure at all times. Support team members and contribute to a positive, productive crew culture. Follow all Zero Harm, environmental, and quality procedures. Qualifications and Skills Proven experience operating civil construction plant and equipment. Strong understanding of safe operating practices and site hazards. Ability to work effectively within a team and contribute to shared goals. Good attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality work. Strong communication skills and a positive attitude. Reliable, flexible, and willing to get stuck in with hands‑on work. Basic numerical skills and ability to complete paperwork accurately. Class 4 / 5 Full NZ Driver’s License (WTR endorsements advantageous). Benefits Full‑time, permanent role with consistent hours.
