Job Description
Role Overview Fixed‑term, 12‑month position starting now (or August 2026) at Taranaki Base Hospital, NewPlymouth and Hawera Hospital, SouthTaranaki Rural Health, Hawera. About the Team & Service The team comprises 22FACEM and other emergency medicine specialists who provide 24/7 emergency care with approximately 39000 patient visits per year at the Base Hospital and 18000 at Hawera. The service is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and delivers 24‑month Registrar training. Role Details Emergency medicine specialists will work between the two sites with a roster of roughly 18 shifts over a six‑week period. You will be supported locally by the full spectrum of medical and surgical specialties, mid‑level providers, junior doctors and medical students. The accredited training programme has consistently produced successful fellowship exam results. There is provision for paid continuing medical education and vacation leave. Responsibilities Provide emergent care for the entire district and manage a full range of patient presentations. Collaborate closely with other specialists to achieve optimal patient outcomes and build meaningful relationships with colleagues. Participate in the education and assessment of junior medical staff and medical students. Qualifications & Expectations Applicants should be registered emergency medicine specialists with a commitment to continuous professional development. Experience in a multi‑site emergency department and a track record of working with junior staff is preferred. All candidates must meet the regulatory requirements of Health NewZealand.
