Job Description

Medical Laboratory Scientist, Blood Bank Location: Middlemore Hospital Employment: Permanent, Full‑time (80 hours per fortnight) Reporting to the Charge Scientist, this role offers the opportunity for a qualified scientist to join the Middlemore Blood Bank team. The role is a full‑time position involving the full range of rostered duties within the Blood Bank department. About Middlemore Hospital Middlemore Hospital is one of NewZealand's busiest and most diverse teaching hospitals. With 950 beds, it provides a wide range of services including a large Emergency Department, Dialysis Unit, National Burns Unit, Neonatal Unit, ICU, general surgery, and medical wards. The Transfusion Service also supports two private hospitals, a dialysis unit, a hospice care facility, and a satellite laboratory at Manukau Health Park. Blood Bank Laboratory The laboratory is equipped with modern instrumentation, including Grifols Erytra and Eflexis analysers. You will support the Charge Scientist in delivering transfusion services across Counties Manukau, TeWhatuOra, and the surrounding community. Key Requirements Registered member of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Council of NewZealand with a current APC Previous Transfusion Medicine / Blood Banking experience is essential; this may include an extensive 16‑week Blood Bank placement and/or recent Blood Bank experience post‑qualification Strong computer skills and experience in safety management Benefits If you enjoy challenges and have Blood Banking experience, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and critical healthcare service.
